Ask anyone in social media marketing and they’ll tell you “Find your niche! Niche down!” However, respectfully, I dissent. Why the need for a self imposed box? Why must everything we share fit into a specific niche? Why do we feel the need to have to define ourselves and our styles in such a limiting fashion?

If I niched down and only shared interior design, I would be denying so many other parts of me: motherhood, my love of expressing myself through my style and outfits, gardening, cooking, making things with my hands, the list goes on. Parts of me that completely overlap, influence and inform each other. Parts that simply could not exist without the others.

Shouldn’t we be promoting authenticity and sharing anything and everything that brings us joy rather than only sharing what fits into a specific niche that we think people want to see?

My advice? It’s very simple: Be a smörgåsbord. Share what you love and what brings you joy. That’s it. Don’t worry if it fits into a nicely curated box, don’t second guess if someone will care about what you’re sharing. Don’t worry if it’s not “on brand.” Don’t feel like you have to define yourself and your style - express yourself in whatever way you want as long as it’s authentic - that is what makes you human. That is where the power lies - in being true to all the parts that make you you and not forcing yourself to dress a certain way or only share a sliver of your life because you feel the need to fit into a certain box. Authenticity over niches, always.

And because a core personality trait of mine is to constantly be in a state of curiosity and tinkering, my style is very much fluid. One week if I’m feeling particularly frazzled I may feel called to only wear all white as a palette cleanser but the next I might want to experiment with developing different color stories and therefore color block my outfits. Come fall I may very well slip back into a monochromatic coma while right this moment I am craving a touch of eccentricity and funk. Niches be damned!

So without further ado, this is what I’m feeling right at this very moment:
